Buying a used car is never an easy decision. After all, it is a big investment and you want to get a good deal. You never know what the car has been through and if the dealer is being honest with you. Fortunately we put together this list of the best used cars by category. We have already looked at sedan, coupes and wagons. Now let’s look at trucks and SUV’s. It should be noted that our criteria was based on a combination of availability, reliability, value and availability. All vehicles are two to seven years old as anything older has to many miles.
Best Compact SUV/Crossover: 2005-2010 Honda CR-V
The first (but not last) Honda to make our list, the CR-V is easy to drive while being both space and fuel efficient. Despite being a compact it still has as much cargo and passenger space is some larger SUV’s. Sadly there is no V6 option but the inline 4 cylinder can still crank out a good bit of power. It offers a great blend comfortable, style and sportiness. On top of all this it boasts a high crash rating as well. The CR-V underwent a redesign in 2007. It added some different styling and a navigation system but the mechanics are the same. It gets around 23 mpg and has a 2.4 liter 4 cylinder engine.
Best Midsized SUV/Crossover: 2005 – 2010 Ford Explorer
The Ford Explorer has been one the mainstays of the SUV world ever since its creation several years ago and is our pick for best used SUV. The Explorer offers nice handling and riding while offer up a roomy interior and several family friendly features. Anyone needing to hall there family or camping gear around could easily go with one of these. Being built on a Ford truck frame gives it more towing power and a more solid ride both off and on the road. It even offers a fairly spacious adult friendly third row seat. The fact that it can come in a V8 makes it all the more powerful. Fuel economy isn’t great at 16 mpg but it is better than many of its rivals. It comes standard with a 4.0 liter V6 engine but you have the option for a V8.
Best New SUV/Crossover” 2005 – 2010 Chevy Tahoe
While we generally are not big fans of Chevy’s cars, the Tahoe is the main exception. If you are looking for large
used vehicles then it is our recommendation. It offers a strong performance, attractive styling, and a very comfortable ride. Fur such a large vehicle it offers surprisingly nimble handling. It comfortably fits up to nine people with space for storage It different packages offer more than enough horsepower. A 2007 redesign added a huge improvement to the interior materials and the cabin in the top levels quite luxurious. It gets 16 mpg and has an impressive 4.8 liter V8 engine that can be upgrades as well.
So there you have it. Part three in our exciting series. Next we will take a look at used trucks and
luxury cars.
